Candidates who are aspiring engineers in Pakistan can apply for ECAT. The abbreviation for ECAT is Engineering College Admission Test. It is a standardized test for admission to engineering degree programs. ECAT is necessary for admission to engineering universities and assesses the skills of students in various subjects, including aptitude, physics, chemistry, mathematics, and English. What is ECAT?

ECAT is one of the common tests required by most engineering universities. Initially, the University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, required the ECAT for admission, but now this test is required for admission to any engineering institution in Pakistan for admission in BS or BSc Engineering degree programs. The University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, conducts ECAT every year. ECAT is mandatory for F.Sc. (Pre-Engineering) or HSSC or equivalent candidates who want to get enrolled in engineering colleges and universities in Pakistan.

Each year, more than 50,000 candidates appear from various districts of Punjab for admission to engineering universities. Eligibility Criteria:

The candidates must have at least 60% marks in HSSC or Intermediate to appear in the ECAT. Candidates who have less than 60% marks in HSSC cannot apply for the ECAT. The applicants must check the eligibility criteria before applying for the ECAT.

ECAT Structure:

The ECAT comprises four major subjects listed below:

  • Physics
  • Chemistry, Computer Sciences, and Statistics
  • Mathematics and Biology
  • English

The ECAT consists of a total of 100 MCQs. There are four options for each question, and the candidates must select the correct one. The total marks for the ECAT are 400. The candidates are awarded 4 marks for each correct answer and (-1) for each wrong answer. The candidates must prepare for the ECAT to avoid losing marks. Application process:

The application process for ECAT is carried out online. The candidates can apply through the website of the UET for the ECAT. Formula:
